Meet Elizabeth Holmes, the world's only 31-year-old female billionaire. She has been compared to Steve Jobs many times, as they both have many similarities. She, like Steve, loved to spend time alone, she also dropped out of school because she believed that there were more important things to do in the world, and she was also confident that her "brainchild" would help change the world. In 2014, her company "Theranos" was valued at nine billion dollars, and Elizabeth herself owns exactly half of the shares.

The Forbes newspaper wrote with admiration about this tall blonde, because at such a young age, thanks only to her innovative ideas, she was able to get into the ranking of billionaires, and also into the list of the most important people on earth.

Today we will try to briefly tell you how Elizabeth was able to achieve so much in such a short time.

Lizzie's Childhood

Elizabeth was always an unusual child, and often told her parents that she wanted to make some important discovery that would be useful to humanity. The girl came up with the idea to connect her life with medicine after reading the biography of her great-grandfather, Christian Holmes, who was a surgeon and inventor. But she was not destined to become a doctor, since Lizzie was afraid of needles since childhood. Although, perhaps, this fear was the main reason for the emergence of the Theranos project, the main idea of which is to take a blood sample from a finger (not venous blood) using a small needle. Today, this idea brings the woman fabulous money.

Study and first startup

The girl chose the chemical engineering department at Stanford, and from her first year she visited the chemistry lab, where she spent hours conducting research. Thanks to her persistence, Elizabeth got the opportunity to do an internship in Singapore, where she studied atypical pneumonia. During this entire period, the girl observed how blood was taken and thought about how to simplify this process, while making it more efficient.

Already in the USA, Holmes gave the world her first invention – a patch with a medical substance inside, which can monitor the patient’s blood condition. At the same time, Elizabeth quits her studies to immerse herself in research and organize her own company.

Strategic directions of the company

Elizabeth Holmes is a true fan of her business, although this has a significant impact on her personal life: she hardly rests, let alone has fun, does not go on dates and has not even been on vacation for the last ten years.

The main idea of her company is the ability to conduct more than thirty different tests using just one drop of blood, and get results much faster, and most importantly – cheaper than its competitors do. For example, if one cholesterol test in a regular lab costs about $17, then in Theranos you need to pay no more than three dollars for it.

The most important task that Holmes has set for herself is to make her company's laboratories accessible to everyone not only in America, but also far beyond its borders. Another of her ideas is the development of preventive medicine, that is, conducting a grand explanatory work with people about the fact that it is much easier and cheaper to do an analysis and prevent a disease than to treat its advanced stage, turning to doctors too late.

Holmes has never taken criticism from her competitors to heart, she always sets goals for herself and achieves them, which is most likely why she is currently the youngest female billionaire in the world.
