Chocolate and red wine are an important part of the diet

A new study from King's College London has found that chocolate and red wine help us stay slim.

The key to success is not the traditional calorie count, but the millions of bacteria that live in our gastrointestinal tract and eat the same food that we do. Some help us digest food and absorb nutrients; others, on the contrary, interfere with the intestines. Therefore, we need to help the beneficial bacteria live and thrive by eating the foods they love.

And they love cheese, other dairy products, nuts and vegetable oil.. They don't like fat and sugar - it's almost poison for them. But also Beneficial bacteria love chocolate and red wine.

All of these products contain polyphenols, substances that strengthen the immune system. The more polyphenols in our diet, the easier it is for the body to absorb vitamins and microelements, and the slimmer we become – without grueling diets and rigorous workouts, mind you.

The study's leader, Tim Spector, has been observing twins for a long time, one of whom has struggled with excess weight all his life, while the other was slim and seemed to make no effort to do so. Spector is sure that the difference between them is solely in the intestinal microflora.

So, more cheese, yoghurt and nuts, less fast food. And you can treat yourself to red wine and chocolates, scientists allow it.
