Tenerife weather in January
The weather in Tenerife in January is a great time for excursions around the island. In January, you can see a funny picture in Tenerife: tourists in shorts and locals in jackets. Not on the southern coast, of course, but in the interior of the island and in the north, where the climate is very different. When going on an excursion to the mountains, do not forget to take some warm clothes.
The Canary Islands are one of the few resort areas on the planet where weather conditions are influenced by the tropical trade wind climate throughout the calendar year. Thus, the weather in the Canary Islands in January will be characterized by high temperatures, which is suitable for both beach and extreme holidays on the island coast.
During daylight hours, the air here can warm up to +23 degrees Celsius, and at night it can drop to +19 degrees. The water temperature reaches +20°.
The weather on the islands also has another significant advantage over numerous resorts where you can go in January for a beach holiday: there are never low temperatures and rainy seasons. Tenerife, La Palma and Gran Canaria deserve special attention, which are also called "continents in miniature" due to the very comfortable climatic conditions that are typical for these parts of the Canary Islands. In addition, these areas are reliably protected from unwanted precipitation and cold winds by powerful mountain ranges, and the absence of sweltering heat and drought, typical for neighboring Africa, is explained by the influence of cool and humid trade winds that blow from the northeast.
The north of the three most popular islands that make up the Canary Islands archipelago is home to lush vegetation and the winds that blow through these areas make them a paradise for yachtsmen and surfers in winter.
The driest part of the archipelago are the islands located in the east. This is due to the proximity of the African Sahara Desert.
